Edinburgh

Silver made in Edinburgh was first stamped in 1525 with a Deacon's mark and it was not until 1681 that a date letter cycle commenced. Early Scottish silver is distinctively different from contemporary English pieces, but the distinction became blurred as trade between the two countries became intertwined. However, even in to the 19th century there remain some peculiarities to Scottish silver for example Celtic Point and Oar pattern flatware, toddy ladles, masking spoons, quaiches and piggins.
