Eighteenth century Scottish silver wine labels are scarce and this example harks from Edinburgh prior to the introduction of the duty mark in 1784. Made by Alexander Gardner, this handsome Port label has an attractive shape with engraved border that is typical of the late 18thC. It is marked to the reverse with a single "AG" stamp and remains in fine condition.
Alexander Gardner was working in Glasgow between circa 1763 and the end of the century.
