Pair of Scottish Silver Table Spoons, Edinburgh 1717
£595.00
Table Spoons (pair) - Hanoverian Rattail Pattern - Edinburgh 1717 by Colin Campbell - 20.2cm long; 126g - GF/7695a
This is an extremely rare opportunity to purchase a pair of early 18th century Edinburgh-marked silver table spoons. Few Scottish spoons from this period have survived and to find a pair is especially pleasing.
The spoons were made by Colin Campbell and have a good solid feeling of quality. The reverse of the bowls show a striking rattail and to the front is the distinctive central ridge defining the Hanoverian Pattern. The stem terminals are engraved with an original 6-point star crest and the Latin motto "Cave Adsum" (translates to "Beware! I am here"). This is the crest and motto of the Jardine Clan.
The Edinburgh hallmarks are a touch worn but easily read for 1717 (date letter "N") with the "EP" Assay Master mark of Edward Penman and the "CC" maker's mark for Colin Campbell. This rare pair of table spoons are in fine condition with an antique patina.
