Pair of Scottish Silver Table Spoons, 1799
£168.00
Table Spoons (pair) - Hanoverian - Edinburgh 1799 by Alexander Gardner - 21cm long; 137g combined weight - AJ/3659
These are a good-looking pair of antique Scottish silver table spoons made in Edinburgh at the close of the 18th century.
Made by Alexander Gardner, these spoons are late examples of the Hanoverian pattern with a good hefty feel in the hand. The reverse terminals are engraved with betrothal triangles - "I" over "WE" where the "I" (old style for "J") was the initial letter of the surname and "W" and "E" the first names of the happy couple. The spoons bear clear sets of hallmarks and remain in excellent condition with nice thick bowl tips.
