George III Scottish Silver Snuff Mull, c.1800
£950.00
Snuff Mull - Edinburgh circa 1800 by IS - 5.5cm wide x 4cm deep x 5.5cm high; 101g - WB/7674
This is a fabulous Georgian period Scottish silver snuff mull in excellent condition.
Shaped to be comfortably held in the hand, this silver snuff mull has a strong hinge and gilt interior. It has a good weight and fabulous feeling. There are no personalised engravings nor dents and bumps. The gilding is original and in fine condition with just minor blackening at the edges.
The box was made circa 1800 by the silversmith "IS" with Edinburgh hallmarks located inside the cover and underneath the base. There are several candidates with those initials working in the city at this time; John Swinton Simpson being the most likely but James Spence and John Sinclair are also possibilities.
