Channel Islands

Set apart from England and France, the Channel Islands supported their own successful silversmithing trade that imbued influences from both sides.

Silver from both Jersey and Guernsey is distinctive in form and yet minimally marked - generally maker's initials only. Spoons often followed the fashions from London in a delayed manner, e.g. trefid spoons from the mid-18th century, and can frequently be recognised at a glance by the characteristic engraving styles.
