Antique Jersey Silver Trefid Spoon, c.1725
Sold
Table Spoon - Trefid - Jersey circa 1725 by TM - 19cm long; 40g - CM/7402
This is a fine example of a Channel Islands silver trefid table spoon made in Jersey.
This early 18th century table is stamped with a single "TM" mark to the reverse which is recorded in Maynes "Channel Islands Silver" but currently remains unidentified. It is a well-made spoon with ribbed rattail to the reverse and is typical of a London-made spoon from circa 1700, however fashions were slow to catch on in the far-flung to Channel Islands and this spoon likely dates from the 1720's.
The reverse of the stem is engraved "MDH" in typical Jersey-style with the "D" likely to refer to the French "De", which continues to be a common surname particle in the Channel Islands.
This spoon has a lovely feel and remains in fine condition.
