Child's Silver

Silver for presenting to babies and children has long been a tradition with the phrase “born with a silver spoon in your mouth” exemplifying the custom. In addition to spoons, silver cups and mugs are a favoured gift for christenings and other vessels for infant feeing such as porringers and pap boats were used in Georgian and earlier times.

Furthermore, silver has also been produced to entertain children, for example rattles were usually fitted with jangly bells and whistles and a coral teether that had the dual purpose of soothing aching gums and the supposed properties of warding away evil spirits.
