Table Spoon - Fiddle Pattern - Tain circa 1835 by William Innes - 22.9cm long; 65g - PB/7743

This is an excellent Scottish silver table spoon with the major bonus of having cherished provincial marks for the town of Tain.

The spoon is in fiddle pattern and bears an original script engraved monogram to the front terminal. The condition of this very rare spoon is really good with a nice thick bowl tip, good patina and clear marks. There are are two stampings: the first contains both the maker and town - "WI TAIN" and the second a thistle.

Tain is Scotland's oldest Royal burgh and is a small northern town in Ross-shire. In silver terms, the town produced a small quantity from a number of highly accomplished silversmiths and the "TAIN" town stamp is seen as a must-have mark for collectors of Scottish provincial silver.
