Table Spoon - Old English Pattern - Edinburgh 1772 by Patrick Robertson - 21.6cm long; 76g - BV/6101

A fabulous example of a George III period silver table spoon made by Patrick Robertson.

This Old English pattern table spoon is engraved to the terminal with a crest depicting a boy climbing a palm tree and a family motto above (suggesting a Scottish family). The motto reads: Surgendum Adversus Urgentia" which translates to "Rise Up Against Oppression". These are the crests and motto of the Bothwell clan.

This table spoon is a first class example in fine original condition with a good, thick bowl tip and excellent antique patina. It is deeply struck with Edinburgh hallmarks to the lower stem and includes the "PR" maker's mark of the top Scottish silversmith Patrick Robertson.
