This Britannia Standard silver marrow scoop dates from the early George I period and is in unusual in having reversible scoops (i.e. one pointing up and the other down).

Marrow scoops were used to tease out the tasty morsels from marrowfat bones - a great delicay during the Georgian period. This is a good quality, early example made from the purer form of silver and has London hallmarks for 1716. The maker's mark is part worn but the initial "H" can be seen and judging by the punch shape and additional devices is most likely to be that of the great silversmith Peter Hararche. This marrow scoop remains in fine original condition.
