Georgian Silver Marrow Scoop, 1768 Evans & Smith
£185.00
Marrow Scoop - Double-ended - London 1768 by Thomas Evans & George Smith - 22.3cm long; 47g - DG/4549
This is a fine example of an early George III period silver marrow scoop made by the spoonmaking partnership of Thomas Evans & George Smith.
This antique marrow scoop takes the usual double-ended form with a wide scoop and narrow scoop joined by a central shank. The hallmarks have been deeply and cleanly punched and the whole of this 250-year old piece is in excellent condition.
Silver marrow scoops were used to tease out the tasty morsels of marrowfat from beef bones - a great delicacy during Georgian times.
