Marrow Spoon - Rat-tail pattern - London 1715 by William Scarlett - 21cm long; 59g - NJ/9162

William Scarlett was a major specialist spoonmaker of the Queen Anne and George I periods and this double ended silver marrow scoop and spoon is an excellent example of his work.

With a nice chunky feel in the hand, this antique spoon has a great feel complete with an original patina and fine condition. It is stamped to the shank with Britannia standard silver hallmarks including a partly mis-struck "Sc" makers mark. Conforming to the newly introduced Hanoverian Rattail pattern, the spoon has a bold rattail to the reverse of the bowl.
