These are a superb pair of Georgian silver candlesticks made by the top maker Gabriel Sleath.

The candlesticks are of the very best quality with a good hefty weight, They have stylish incurved and stepped square bases with an original engraved crest to the corner of both. The innovative pair of removable sconce nozzles extend the height of the candlesticks in addition to their role in easing the cleaning of spent wax.

This George II period pair of candlesticks are in wonderful condition with nothing negative to repair. The full sets of hallmarks are located under the bases, plus an appropriate lion passant to the capitals.

Gabriel Sleath had been apprenticed to Thomas Coooper between 1691 and 1701. He was a premier hollowware maker that made a large assortment of good quality wares. He was in business for the best part of half a century before his death in 1756. The script "GS" within an oval mark as represented on this candlesticks was registered in 1739.
