William Beilby Silver Table Spoon, Newcastle 1755
Sold
Table Spoon - Hanoverian Pattern - Newcastle 1755 by William Beilby - 20.6cm long; 67g - JA/6135
This a fine example of an antique Hanoverian pattern silver table spoon made in Newcastle by William Beilby.
Newcastle spoons from the mid-18th century are comparatively scarce and this a good example with bottom-struck hallmarks showing the date letter "Q" and the "WB" in script maker's mark. A further bonus is the presence of an excellent engraved crest to the reverse terminal featuring a lion rampant holding a double-ended spear or Jagerstock.
The spoon has a good weight in the hand and is in excellent condition with thick bowl tip and fine patina.
