Front Hallmarked Silver Table Fork, Newcastle 1798
£150.00
Table Fork - Front Hallmarked; Old English Pattern - Newcastle 1798 by John Langlands - 21.2cm long; 55g - YJ/3449
Hallmarks are always stamped to the reverse side of silver flatware, however this anomaly is marked to the front!
Whether it was purposely done, a private commission or a Friday afternoon job - who knows, but the presence of hallmarks to the front of this Newcastle-made silver table fork is extremely unusual. The marks are well-struck, crisp and include great examples of the Newcastle town mark and the maker's mark "IL" for the important maker John Langlands. The fork itself is in good condition with equal length tines.
