Wine Ewer - Cellini Pattern - Birmingham 1872 by Frederick Elkington - 29.5cm high; 1030g - RS/1908

Sorry, this item is out of stock.

Inspired by the 16th Century designs of the Italian Benvenuto Cellini (generally considered the most important silversmith of all time), this pitcher is probably the most popular of all Victorian ewer designs. The chased decoration just oozes high quality and depicts Bacchus masks and jumping stags. There is a cartouche to the front with a simple presentation engraving dated to 1875 and a fabulous figural handle. The full set of hallmarks are located to the inside of the pouring spout and are further sign of quality is the gilt interior.

A fabulous Cellini claret jug and in fine, crisp condition throughout.
