Meat Skewer - London 1785 by George Smith - 27.5cm long; 66g - RF/6082

This is a handsome and top quality Georgian silver meat skewer for dressing a joint of meat at the table.

This 11" long skewer has attractive bead decoration around the finger hole and bears an original engraved crest of an eagle atop a heron or stork. The reverse side has a deeply struck set of London hallmarks for the premier silversmith George Smith and includes a clear example of the scarce incuse duty mark (used for just 18 months December 1784 to May 1786).

The skewer is in fine, antique condition with typical minor scratches from use.
