William Scarlett Dog Nose Spoon

Spoon - Dog-nose pattern - London 1710 by William Scarlett - 19.4cm long; 45g - VK/6118
This fine example of a Queen Anne period dog nose silver table spoon benefits from having a good clear set of Britannia Standard hallmarks. Often the marks on spoons of this pattern are worn, but this flat stemmed example has very deeply struck marks including a clear "SC" makers mark and "p" in Greek script date letter. The reverse terminal is engraved with original betrothal initials which are dated to 1711 and add further interest and character to the spoon. The condition is excellent with just a few minor bumps to the bowl. A fine example of its type.
