Dog Nose Spoon with Flat Stem, 1701

Sold
Spoon - Dog nose - London 1701 by Francis Archbold - 20.7cm long; 57g - CR/7119</p>
This is an excellent example of a silver dog nose spoon in the transitional form with a flat stem as per the earlier trefid spoons. The majority of dog nose spoons have a rounded stem which had become the new fashion circa 1700 and continued to be the standard form going forward.
The spoon was made by the top maker Francis Archbold and bears a very good set of Briannia Standard hallmarks. The reverse terminal is engraved with a betrothal triangle with "V"being the surname of the newly weds. The lower stem is engraved "1701" which is presumably a later addition.
The condition is excellent with a full bowl and lovely original patina. A very pleasing spoon.
