These are an excellent pair of George I silver table spoons in Hanoverian Rattail.

These 300+ year old antique spoons have the typical central ridge to the front of the stem and the strong rattail to the underside of the bowls. They have a good, satisfying weight and feel great in the hand. The reverse terminals are engraved with originial betrothal triangles where the upper letter "N" represents the surname of the newly weds, whilst the "I" (old style of "J") and "E" denote their first names. The condition is excellent, with both spoons having unworn bowls and a lovely patina.

The spoons were made by the specialist spoonmaker Isaac Davenport and each bear a full, clear set of Britannia Standard silver London hallmarks for 1716. Isaac Davenport was apprenticed to Thomas Allen in 1689 and in turn taught the future spoonmakers Thomas Dalton, Hugh Arnett and Edward Hall.
