Plymouth Silver Laceback Trefid Spoon, 1699 by Rowe
Sold
Spoon - Laceback Trefid - Plymouth circa 1690 by Peter Rowe - 20.7cm long; 47g - ST/3098
Plymouth silver spoons are scarce and this example not only has the sought after laceback design but also includes the rarely seen Plymouth town mark.
This silver trefid spoon has die-struck laceback decoration to both the reverse of the bowl and front of the stem, furthermore, the trefid terminal has additional "ears" to the design. The reverse side of the terminal is engraved with original dot-prick engraved initials which are helpfully dated to 1699 and place the spoon in the working period of its maker Peter Rowe.
Attributing this spoon has been made easy, as in addition to the engraved date, the stem is conveniently struck with two marks which tell us exactly where it was made - "Plm" and the maker - "Rowe"!
This is a fine and rare silver table spoon which, other than a little thinning to the bowl tip, is in fine condition with good detailing to the decoration.
