Silver-gilt Vinaigrette with Filigree Decoration, 1830
£550.00
Vinaigrette - Gilt: Rectangular with Filigree Decoration - Birmingham 1830 by Joseph Bettridge - 3.5cm x 2.6cm; 22g - DP/3997
Joseph Bettridge made some fine silver boxes and this silver-gilt vinaigrette is no exception.
The vinaigrette is richly gilt all over and the base and sides engine turned in typical fashion. However, it is the decoration to the cover that is the stand-out feature - the applied, fine filigree wire and beads that give a mirrored octopus tentacle effect.
The interior of the box contains a beautifully pierced and engraved floral scroll hinged grille and a full set of hallmarks spread in typical Birmingham box style between the base and cover. This Georgian period vinaigrette is in excellent condition.
