Teaspoons (6) - Engraved with Picture-back - London circa 1775 by William Penstone - 12.6cm long; 79g - GS/7815

This is a lovely set of antique silver teaspoons with original picture backs and later decorated engraved fronts.

Made during the early George III period, these teaspoons feature a decorative scroll to the reverse of the bowls which helps date the spoons to the early 1770's. The attractive engraving to the front will have been done to enhance their appearance to the tastes of the late Victorian period.

London-made silver teaspoons made prior to 1781 only bear a lion passant and maker's mark and this set has both to each spoon with the WP mark for William Penstone who registered his mark as a specialist spoonmaker in 1774 but was bankrupt by 1778 thus giving a short window for accurately dating these spoons. The set is in excellent condition with neither damage nor repair.
