Table Spoons (4) - Hanoverian pattern with Early Scroll Back - London 1744 by Marmaduke Daintrey - 20.9cm long; 252g - VB/1453

Sorry, this item is out of stock.

These are a fabulous set of 4 silver table spoons with an early example of a scroll motif to the reverse of the bowl. Fancy back spoons first appeared in the 1730's in the form of a rudimentary shell motif. Through the Rococo period this developed in to larger shells and fanciful scrolls, however the scrolls on these spoons are far more restrained and indicative of an early scroll design.

The spoons are all in excellent condition with full bowls and good patina. The scrolls remain crisp throughout. They each have a clear set of bottom-struck hallmarks for the important spoonmaker Marmaduke Daintrey and the quality/weight of these spoons is typical of the high quality produced by this maker. A further point of interest is the pronouned elongated shape of the bowls - entirely original and different in shape to other table spoons from the mid-18th century. A fabulous set!
