Rare Fiddle & Thread Crest & Motto Silver Table Spoon, Aberdeen
£138.00
Table Spoon - Fiddle & Thread Pattern - Aberdeen circa 1820 by William Jamieson - 22.5cm long; 96g - LS/6144
You don't tend to come across Fiddle & Thread pattern silver flatware from the Scottish provinces and this is a particularly fine example from Aberdeen.
Weighing just shy of 100 grams (over 3 troy ounces), it has a good, chunky feel in the hand and the bowl tip remains really thick. A further sign of the very high quality is the script initials surmounted by an eagle's head crest and the motto "Viget In Cinere Virtus" which translates to "Virtue Flourishes after Death" and is associated with the Davidson family. The reverse side has plenty of stamps with "WJ" for William Jamieson punched three times and the A B D marks.
This fabulous late Georgian period table spoon remains in wonderful condition.
