Taperstick - Octagonal - London 1708 by Thomas Merry - 11.5cm high; 97g - YJ/3759

Dating from the Queen Anne period, this octagonal silver taperstick takes the archetypal form for the first decade of the 18th century.

It was made from the purer Britannia standard and bears a great set of London hallmarks to the underside of the base that includes the "Me" maker's mark for Thomas Merry, a specialist candlestick maker.

This 4.5" candlestick would have held a taper that could be used at a desk and when lit used to melt sealing wax. It is in first class condition and a fine example of its type.
