Salt Spoons (pair) - Old English Pattern - York circa 1800 by Hampston, Prince & Cattles - 9.6cm long; 20g combined weight - SK/3318b

This is a scarce pair of silver salt spoons made in York by Hampston, Prince & Cattles.

To the front terminals of these Old English pattern salts spoons are contemporary to manufacture engraved crests and a script engraved "J". The circular ladle-like bowls are gilt and the condition is excellent. The hallmarks to the reverse are easily legible and are typical for small York-made spoons of the period - i.e. lacking a date letter and town mark, however the short working period of the three-way partnership (1797-1804) that made them is an accurate indication of the date of manufacture.
