Sugar Tongs - Bright-cut Engraved - London circa 1786-90 by Hester Bateman - 14cm long; 34g - AG/7261

A good-looking pair of George III period silver sugar tongs made by the important lady silversmith Hester Bateman.

These silver sugar tongs have pretty bright-cut engravings along the arms and original engraved "RD" initials to the outside of the bow. The style of London hallmarks which include the intaglio duty mark helps date the tongs to the 1786-90 period (London tongs of this period did not bear a date letter).

The condition is excellent throughout with crisp decoration and clear hallmarks, importantly including an excellent "HB" in script maker's mark.
