Chambersticks (pair) - Circular - London 1826 by Edward Barton - 14.5cm diameter (17.5cm wide incl. handle); 9.5cm high; 715g combined weight - GT/5844

These are a terrific pair of stylish, George IV period silver chambersticks, complete with conforming baron's crest to each piece.

Used as portable candlesticks, chambersticks were especially useful at bedtime and these examples even have their own original conical-shaped flame extinguishers that fit neatly into slots in the handles. Furthermore, the sconce nozzles are removable to enable the easy cleaning of spent wax.

The looped carrying handles are engraved to the top, ergonomically-shaped thumbrests with an original engraved double crest that is surmounted by the coronet of a baron; the nozzles and snuffers are similarly engraved too. With their aristocratic provenance, further research should reveal the identity of these husband and wife crests.

Made by the London-based plateworker Edward Barton, these high quality silver chambersticks remain in excellent condition throughout with nothing negative to report.
