Spoons (pair) - Dog nose - London 1705 by Isaac Davenport - 20.4cm long; 120g combined weight - DW/6735

This a superb pair of Queen Anne period silver table spoons in the Dog Nose pattern.

These spoons portray all the facets you could wish for from spoons made in the first decade of the 18th century. They have a good weight and balance, original engraved betrothal triangles, excellent hallmarks and fabulous condition and colour.

The betrothal triangles to the reverse terminals show these spoons to have been given as wedding gifts with the upper letter representing the surname of the newlyweds and the lower two their first names. The condition is superb with unworn bowls, strong rattails and a beautiful antique patina.

Both spoons have clear sets of London hallmarks showing them to be made of the purer Britannia Standard and including the "DA" maker's mark for Isaac Davenport. This maker was one of a line of specialist spoonmakers with his master being Thomas Allen and his apprentices including Isaac Dalton, Hugh Arnett and Edward Hall. The date letters are clearly legible on both spoons.

As good a pair of early 18th centuiry spoons as you are likely to find!
