Basting Spoon - Hanoverian Rattail Pattern - London 1718 by James Morson - 35cm long; 166g - GF/4767

At 13.75" long, this very large George I silver basting or hash spoon is stamped with hallmarks for the purer Britannia Standard silver.

The spoon is engraved to the reverse terminal with an original armorial that is part worn (it is on the section of the handle that has table contact) and a later 18th century crest. The hallmarks include the maker's mark "Mo" for James Morson overstriking another and the date letter "C" for 1718.

This imposing Hanoverian Rattail spoon has a lovely feel in the hand and is in excellent condition with a good, thick bowl rim.
