Nutmeg Grater - London circa 1760 - 4.1cm high; 16.5g - CA/6695

Sorry, this item is out of stock.

This is a really beautiful mid-18th century silver pocket nutmeg grater. Taking an urn-shape and standing on a small pedestal foot, this small box is chased all over in the typical style of the 1750's and 60's. It bears a single maker's mark to the inside of the cover that has proved tricky to decipher. The cover is fitted to the base with a well-made and satisfying screw-thread that when opened reveals the original steel rasp. The rasp can be lifted out to house the nut when not required or to to retrieve the spice once grated. This very fine piece is in lovely condition throughout.
