Novelty Silver Cow Creamer, 1965
£895.00
Cream Jug - Cow - London 1965 (import) by Israel Freeman - 15.5cm long; 210g (Box = 17.5cm x 11.5cm) - AV/7824
The 18th century Dutch silversmith John Schuppe was noted for his humous novelty silver cream jugs in the form of a cow. The best modern copies of these cow creamers were made in Germany and imported to the UK by Israel Freeman. This fine example has the bonus of being presented in its original case.
This cow creamer has a textured body with excellent features to the face. In line with the 18th century John Schuppe originals, it has a hinged cover with fly motif. The cream pours through the open mouth of the standing cow and the looped handle acts as handle.
The piece was made in Germany, imported to the UK and stamped with appropriate London hallmarks. It has a good, hefty weight and is in super condition. A very fine piece.
