Sugar Nips - 'Monkey' - London 1901 by Charles Fox - 13.3cm long; 71g - YR/5794
These are a stunning pair of novelty silver sugar nips in the form of a monkey with outstretched arms.
Superbly modelled with arms reaching to grasp the sugar cube, ruby set eyes and tail curling around a leg that forms the handle for one of the finger rings, this high quality novelty is typical of the wares one would expect from the premier Victorian silversmith Charles Fox. These are good-sized sugar nippers with a lovely, top calibre feel in the hand. They are in excellent condition throughout with a good, clear set of London hallmarks, spread across both arms.
