Spoon - Edward VII Coronation - Birmingham 1901 by Liberty & Co. - 16.5cm long; 74g - RY/4861

This is a superb silver spoon made by Liberty & Co and designed by Archibald Knox to celebrate the coronation of King Edward VII in 1902.

This good-sized, arts & crafts spoon has celtic knot motifs to the handle terminal and junction with the bowl. The centre of the bowl has an enamelled crown above "AC" and "ERVII" (for Anno Coronatio Edwardus Rex VII). This spoon was part of the CYMRIC range retailed by Liberty and a design registration number Rd391476 is located to the reverse side adjacent to the Birmingham hallmarks.

A fabulous spoon in excellent condition (n.b. the green dots below the crown are incomplete).

See an illustration of a non-enamelled version in Stephen A Martin's, "Archibald Knox" on page 212 pl.351 and Adrian Tilbrook's "The Designs of Archibald Knox", page 126 figure 107.
