Britannia Std Muffineer, 1713

Muffineer - Baluster Form - London 1713 by Charles Adam - 10.5cm high; 6cm diameter; 111g - WT/8790
This is a lovely quality silver caster dating from the reign of Queen Anne. It fits the hand beautifully and has a great feel of quality with a good hefty weight. The pull off cover is attractively pierced with scrolls and there is a nicely engraved unicorn crest to the side. There are a full set of Britannia Standard hallmarks under the base. Charles Adam was a specialist caster maker and this muffineer is of the typical high quality one would expect.
Mid-way in size between a pepper pot and a sugar caster, muffineers were used for sprinkling powdered sugar or flour on to scones, muffins and cakes. This example remains practical for such uses today.
