Miniature Tazza - Circular with Gadroon Mount - London 1701 by George Manjoy - 6.5cm diameter; 1.6cm high - HN/7355
This excellent miniature William III period silver tazza or footed salver is faithful copy of full-sized versions to be found at the turn of the 17th/18th centuries - see below for links to full-sized versions.
Made by the the most important maker of miniatures, George Manjoy, this tazza benefits from bearing a full set of legible English hallmarks for the purer Britannia standard silver and includes the sought after "MA" maker's mark (touch worn). The circular tazza has a gadroon rim and stands on a trumpet-shaped foot. It is engraved with "EG" initials for the original owner. It was most likely made to furnish a doll's house that had become newly fashionable at the start of the 18th century with the first one in England reputedly commissioned by the future Queen Anne in 1695.
This silver tazza remains in excellent condition.
