Caddy Spoon - Leaping Deer - Birmingham 1929 by Bernard Instone - 7.8cm long; 5.2cm wide; 32g - VS/7039
Bernard Instone was responsible for a range of superb silver caddy spoons in the late 1920's/early 1930's and the "Leaping Deer" is probably the best of them.
It is expertly designed with the deer forming an ergonomically-sized handle and the hand-made nature of the piece is evidenced by the planishing marks to the hand-raised bowl. The spoon has a good, chunky feel in the hand and of overall high quality. This top-drawer spoon remains in excellent condition with clear Birmingham hallmarks and cherished "BI" maker's mark.
