Basting Spoon - Hanoverian Pattern - London 1741 by Jeremiah King - 33.5cm long; 164g - JG/4041

This is a very large, 13.25" long, George II period silver serving spoon made by the spoonmaker Jeremiah King.

This is a huge Hanoverian pattern basting spoon with generous bowl. It it is engraved to the reverse terminal with the head of a resplendent stag. The condition is superb with the bowl retaining its thick rim and the hallmarks remaining legible throughout. An excellent mid-18th century spoon!

Jeremiah King was apprenticed to the spoonmaker William Scarlett in 1715 and free of the Broderers Company in 1722. His "I King" in script mark is just about the easiest of 18th century maker's marks to identify!
