Sorry, this item is out of stock.

This is a lovely example of a Georgian period novelty silver caddy spoon in the form of a jockey cap with a wide, brimmed peak.

Jockey Cap caddy spoons are among the most iconic tea caddy spoon forms and remain a "must-have" for any collection. Jockey cap silver caddy spoons take many different forms as can be seen in the final photos which shows the small selection currently being offered. This particular spoon has clever straight chasing around the crown and peak representing the panels of a cap and a button to the top. The button is engraved with a Gothic script engraved monogram.

The inside of the cap is stamped with a lion passant a duty stamp and the partial mark of a maker - probably belonging to Samuel Pemberton who specialised in this type of jockey cap spoon. Another example by Pemberton can be seen as plate 95c in "Caddy Spoons: An Illustrated Guide" by John Norie. As often is the case, there is no date letter, but the spoon will certainly date from circa 1800 when the majority of jockey caps were made. The condition is excellent throughout.
