Wine Label - Port; Bacchic - Dublin circa 1810 by John Townsend - 6.2cm wide; 15g - DB/9934c

Bearing the name PORT, this Irish silver wine label features Bacchus, the Greek god of wine and two playful putti with cups of wine amidst vine tendrils draped with grapes.

This Georgian bottle ticket was made in Dublin by John Townsend and the three appropriate hallmarks (crowned harp, duty and maker) are spread around the top of the label front. The working period of the maker and the presence of a George III head duty mark suggest a date of manufacture around 1810. This antique label remains in fine condition.
