Teneriffe Label, Cork 1790 K Mahony
Sold
Wine Label - TENERIFFE; Navette-shape with Bright-cut Border - Cork c.1790 by Kean Mahony - 4.5cm wide - Ref: HG/7767
Kean Mahony, with the maker's mark "KM" is a rarely encountered Irish silversmith working from Cork in the late 18th century. This elegant navette-shaped silver wine label is typical of the 1780's and 90's and is beautifully engraved around the edge. It bears a clear "STERLING" mark in addition to the maker's mark and remains in fabulous condition.
The Teneriffe title represents a wine from the Canary Islands which, from the prevalance of extant labels, appears to have been especially popular in Ireland.
