Hester Bateman Bright-cut Silver Cream Jug, 1788
Sold
Cream Jug - Helmet; Bright-cut Engraved - London 1788 by Hester Bateman - 16.2cm high; 123g - BY/7238
Hester Bateman made some lovely pieces of silver and this is a perfect example of her wares.
This silver cream jug takes a helmet form and sits on a square pedestal foot. It is superbly decorated in the neo-classical manner with bright-cut engraving and bears an original script monogram to the cartouche. This type of Georgian jug is typically found damaged or repaired but this is a first class example in fine, crisp condition. It further benefits from a clear set of London hallmarks to the underside with an excellent example of the sought after HB in script maker's mark for Hester Bateman.
