Bright-cut Georgian Silver Tea Caddy, 1786
£1,795.00
Tea Caddy - Bright-cut Engraved - London 1786 by Samuel White - 15cm high; 13.3cm wide; 10cm deep; 428g - GY/3742
This is a handsome Georgian silver tea caddy decorated with Neo-classical style bright-cut engraving that was typical of the fourth quarter of the 18th century.
The caddy has an attractive oval-shape with quartered panelling and is fitted with a flush-hinged cover complete with urn-shaped finial. A major bonus is the presence of the original lock and key that still works. The cartouche to the front of the box remains free from engravings whilst the back has an original engraved crest featuring an armoured hand holding a halberd.
The full set of London hallmarks for the maker Samuel White are located to the underside with appropriate part marks inside the cover. This is an excellent George III period silver tea caddy in fine condition.
