Sorry, this item is out of stock.

This is a good looking, Georgian silver wine label with the scarce title of "Hermitage". This rectangular label has a bright-cut engraved border and is in fine condition (a little infill blackening missing from the "I" & "T").

The AF over SG maker's mark, which is struck three times with varying completeness, is interesting in that it belongs to the partnership of Fogelbert & Gilbert (working from 1780 to 1793) who are not well known for wine label production, but rather larger pieces of hollowware. Fogelbert was the master to the young Paul Storr from 1785 to 1792, although due to the lack of a duty mark, this label will likely pre-date his arrival.

Hermitage is a French red wine from the northern Rhone wine region, just south of Lyon.
