Disc Port Label, P&W Bateman

Sold
Wine Label - Port; Disc shape - London 1807 by Peter & William Bateman - 3.4cm diameter; 13.9g - DP/3581
This rare form of wine label emanates from the workshop of the famous Bateman family of silversmiths. The partnership at the time of this label was Peter and William (son and grandson respectively of Hester Bateman). Round labels, either called button or disc-shaped are much more scarce than ovals and rectangles and this example for PORT has been made from a good thickness of silver and even has an applied gadroon border.
