Table Spoon - Hanoverian Pattern with Double-drop - London 1757 by William Shaw & William Priest - 20.2cm long; 46g - CR/1363

Sorry, this item is out of stock.

William Shaw & William Priest, the makers of this antique silver spoon, are primarily known for their fine quality hollowware, in particular tankards and coffee pots, yet this spoon is proof that their repertoire was in fact much wider.

The spoon is in the typical Hanoverian pattern of the mid-18th century and features a great example of an extended double drop to the heel of the bowl. It bears an excellent set of engraved contemporary betrothal initials to the reverse terminal, where "C" was the initial of the happy couple's surname and "I" (read "J") and "M" their first names.

This George II silver table spoon remains in excellent condition with unworn bowl and a great set of bottom-struck hallmarks.
