Caddy Spoon - Flower Bowl with Green Man Mask - London 1891 by William Comyn - 11.3cm long; 26g - WK/1446
The London silversmithing firm of William Comyns were well known in the late 19th century for their high quality decorative silverware and were rare producers of silver caddy spoons.
However, this late Victorian caddy spoon emantes from their workshop and is beautifully made with its highly ornate, circular floral bowl being centred by an open-mouthed mask within a flower head, reminiscent of the Green Man (a Pagan symbol heralding spring). The handle is attractively pierced and engraved and the hallmarks are located within the decoration of the bowl.
This fine antique caddy spoon remains in excellent condition.
