Sorry, this item is out of stock.

This is a fabulous quality George III period silver snuffer tray complete with engraved armorial.

Snuffer trays were used to carry candle extinguishers (wick trimmers) and prevent scratching to desks and tables. This rectangular piece exhibits full Regency period splendour with its exuberant gadroon and flower border. The coat-of-arms to the centre has been expertly engraved and includes a hound crest and Latin motto "Semper Fidelis" (Always faithful). This is the motto of many families and coincidentally the US Marine Corps!

This top quality tray is unusual in bearing Sheffield rather than the usual London hallmarks and was made by Robert Gainsford. It is of the very highest quality and in superb condition.
